The Old Dominion Monarchs take on the Howard Bison on Sunday, Dec. 7, 2025. It was an Educator Appreciation game. The educators were acknowledged and shown appreciation for their duties. The crowd showed up, and the Lady Monarchs took advantage of their home-court advantage.
Howard Bison were denied in their matchup with the Lady Monarchs. The Lady Monarchs defeated the Howard Bison in their matchup, with a final score of 63-59. Simaru Fields scored a season high 21 points, shooting 50 percent from the field, making 5 out of 6 free throws, and 4 out of 6 three pointers. The Bison started the first quarter with the lead. Howard Bison performed better than Old Dominion Lady Monarchs from the field and three-point line in the first quarter.
Howard shot 57 percent from the field and 75 percent from the three-point range in the first quarter. Howard's first possession ended with a block from Simone Cunningham. Then, after Cunningham's effort to draw the foul and make it to the free throw line. Nile Miller from Howard scored two points in the paint, answering S. Cunningham's 2 points.
In the second quarter, Howard came out on top again by scoring one more point than the Lady Monarchs. The first half ended with Howard in the lead by three. The Monarchs shot one three-pointer and made it. The Monarchs shot 100 percent from the arc.
The Lady Monarchs turned up their volume in the third quarter and outscored the Bisons by nine points. Dalanna Carter slowed up the opposing team's guard, playing smothering defense on April Edwards. Simaru Fields was able to knock down two clutch three-pointers between the one-minute and two-minute mark. Fields made a three-point shot from a turnover. The second three-pointer came from a fast break turnover, assisted by Jaylen Ponder.
The Lady Monarchs' 3rd quarter did not carry over into the 4th quarter. The Lady Monarchs shot 61.5 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the arc in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Monarchs shot 25 percent from the field and were zero for two behind the arc. The Monarchs had four more turnovers than Howard, two more points in the paint than Howard, 19 more fast break points than Howard, and 20 more points off the bench than Howard. The Monarchs will host their first conference game at Chartway Arena against Troy on December 17, 2025, at 11 am for Education Day. ODU has a 7-3 record. Troy has an 8-1 record. This matchup will be the first conference game for both teams.
