ODU Lady Monarchs are victorious in the battle against the VSU Lady Trojans.

ODU Women's Basketball

On Dec. 22nd at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Va., at 2 pm. The Monarchs and Trojans had 1,393 in attendance to see them compete against each other. The game was a great turnout, being it was a last-minute change in opponent. DeLisha Milton-Jones stated during a short interview at halftime that preparation is as vital as maintaining the basics in the game of basketball. When given minimum time to prepare. The ODU Lady Monarchs finish victorious.


The Trojans came out ready to rumble with the Monarchs, but the Monarchs came out victorious, defeating the Trojans 68 - 58. The Trojans were able to score on their first possession. Amesha Miller made a layup with assistance from Carmen Kweti. The Monarchs would not roll over and let the Trojans walk over them.


Brenda Fontana answered Amesha's layup with assistance from Simaru Fields. After those two buckets from both teams. Turnovers began, and Buford's active hands gave Old Dominion a steal. Buford found herself in early foul trouble. Buford's first foul came at the 7-minute mark. Buford's foul sent Anii Harris to the free-throw line. Those two free throws gave VSU the lead early in the first quarter.


Simaru Fields made her way to the free-throw line after a foul was called on Tiyanna James. Simaru Fields made both free throws, which cut VSU's lead down. Mariah Clayton was subbed in early and scored two points with assistance from Camryn Hill. Mariah Clayton led the Monarchs in scoring. She finished with 15 points. She made seven out of 13 shots from the field and was named Player of the Game. The Lady Monarchs won the first quarter by 10 points.


Opening up the second quarter, Simaru Fields forced the steal. Jadyn Atchison scored three points with assistance from Sarah Hammack Fitzgerald. ODU's ability to capitalize on the steal put them up by 13 early in the second quarter. Sarai Estupinan made her way to the free-throw line, shooting three free throws at the 7-minute mark.


C. Kweti led the Trojans in rebounding. She pulled in 15 rebounds. A. Miller scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. Kelsey Thompson scored 10 points, had four assists, and nine rebounds. The Lady Monarchs finished the game shooting 41.9 percent from the field and 84.6 percent from the free throw line. The Lady Trojans finished the game shooting 36.7 percent from the field and 76.9 percent from the free throw line.

South Alabama holds a record of 4-7. Old Dominion's record is 8-4. Old Dominion versus South Alabama will be played on December 29th, 2024, in Norfolk, Va., at the Chartway Arena at 1 pm.
