ODU Lady Monarchs win their second Sun Belt Conference game at home. Today at the Chartway Arena, the Georgia State Panthers faced off against the Old Dominion Monarchs. Simaru Fields led the team in points, rebounds, and assists. Fields finished the game with 29 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.


ODU and GSU started the game with similar intensity, one bucket after the other. Georgia State was running the court with the same energy as Old Dominion. Kaleigh Addie scored the first three points for Georgia State, assisted by Crystal Henderson. Then, Riley Stack was able to find the basket for two points, assisted by Simone Cunningham.


At the three-minute mark of the first quarter, Crystal Henderson tied the game up at 11 with a made second-chance jumper. Jaylen Ponder was able to get Old Dominion back in the lead with a made layup. The first quarter ended with Georgia State in the lead. Cheyenne Holloman made two free throws after she was fouled on the fast break.

Going into the third quarter, at the six-minute mark, Simaru Fields tied the game up at 24-24 with a made three-pointer assisted by Kelsey Thompson. Then, Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu answered ODU's three-pointer, giving Georgia State the lead. As the third came to an end, the game's score was 28-31. Dalanna Carter made a 3-point jumper off an opponent's turnover. Carter's three-pointer tied the game up 31-31. The Georgia State Panthers finished the game with 18 points off turnovers. Old Dominion Monarchs finished the game with 13 points off turnovers. Listen to the full play-by-play here.


The intense and back-and-forth gameplay didn't stop in the fourth quarter. Morgan Robinson-Nwagwu tied the game 60-60 at the five-minute mark with two made free throws. Riley Stack made a layup at the one-minute mark to tie the game at 67-67. Simaru Fields shot a three-pointer with 46 seconds left in the game, giving ODU a three-point lead. Buford was able to put the last points on the board with a made free throw, with Old Dominion in the bonus.


At home, the Monarchs win 73-68. Old Dominion is now 5th in the Sun Belt Conference. Old Dominion's next matchup will be against Marshall on Jan. 7, 2026, at Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, WV. This matchup will be a Sun Belt Conference matchup.
