ODU Women's Basketball

The Lady Monarchs wasted no time on Nov. 26th at the Chartway Arena. ODU played with intensity and tenacity throughout the whole game. Their first two possessions resulted in a five-to-zero run against the Lady Tribe of William and Mary. This was one of ODU's best games; they came out on top in all categories against their opponent.


William and Mary's Bella Nascimento led their team in scoring with 15 points. The Tribe had a hard time finding good looks at the basket. They took contested shots and made extra passes that led to difficult makes and forced shots. The Tribe's shooting percentage was 28 percent from the field and 10 percent from the three-point line. William and Mary made nine out of 15 free throws. Anahi-Lee Cauley and Rebekah Frisby-Smith's presence was felt on the court, leading their team in rebounds.


Kayla Beckwith scored William & Mary's first layup in the first quarter, assisted by Alexa Mikeska. William and Mary had a difficult time finding their rhythm. ODU smothered the Tribe with their man-to-man defense. William and Mary scored six points in the first quarter, while ODU scored 15. Mariah Clayton ended the first quarter with a made layup at the one-minute and 27-second mark.


Alexa tried her best to assist in a victory in the second quarter. Kayla Rolph scored two points on a made jumper, assisted by Alexa. En'dya Buford assisted Hama'ya Fielder's three-pointer, answering Kayla's two points with a three-pointer. After halftime, William and Mary came out fouling, sending Brenda Fontana to the free-throw line. Brenda's two free throws gave ODU a 19-point lead. En'Dya Buford also made it to the free-throw line at the eight-minute mark, making both free throws. The Monarchs led the entire game.


Jana Sallman made a layup to start the fourth quarter, bringing the lead down to 20. Jana and Bella led the Tribe in scoring. Altogether, Jana and Bella scored 23 points. Kelsey Thompson, Hama'ya Fielder, and Simone Cunningham led the Monarchs in scoring. Altogether, Kelsey, Hama'ya, and Simone scored 28 points. The Monarchs' next matchup will be against the ranked number 11 Ohio State Buckeyes at the Daytona Beach Classic. The game begins at 11 am. It will be broadcast on BallerTV. The Lady Monarchs will be home on December 15th to compete against the ECU Pirates.
