Teamwork, determination, and skills led to a 97-61 Lady Monarch victory against the CNU Captains on Sunday, Oct. 27th. The game started with Brenda Fontana scoring the first possession with an assist from En'Dya Buford. Alexia Lindsey from CNU answered ODU's first two points with a three-pointer. Then Buford answered Alexia's three-pointer. The Captains and Monarchs went back and forth in a steady-paced exhibition game.

CNU began the matchup with some fight in their hearts. Some changes were made on defense, and ODU went into a 3-2 trap defense. This defense made CNU turn the ball over. At the 4-minute mark, it was tied up at 9 when ODU went back into a man-to-man defense.

The Lady Monarchs were able to shoot 52 percent from the field. The CNU Captains entered a full-court press to force turnovers, but the Lady Monarchs broke it easily with Simone Cunningham placed near half-court. Simone Cunningham scored 10 points. En'Dya Buford was five assists, one point, and seven steals away from a triple-double.

ODU had no problem getting to the basket, playing physically, and drawing the foul. In the second quarter, the Lady Monarchs took the lead 29 - 21. Ha'mya Fielder was able to connect from the three-point line during the second quarter. Fielder's consecutive threes increased ODU's point margin. During the second quarter, Mariah Clayton went two for two at the free-throw line. The Lady Monarchs ended the second quarter with an 18-point lead.
